The common belief is that the photographer simply captures what is already there in existence, but the believers of this concept are mistaken. I don’t photograph the world around me; I photograph the world inside my head. For mere fractions of seconds at a time, the dark corners of my mind become illuminated, capturing the characters and their habitats within. From princesses to ghosts, and meadows to abandoned houses, my characters share faces whilst living in different contexts.
While I feel that I’ve found my niche in photography, I do not place limits on myself. I’m eager to try my hand at new tools, whether it is a stick of charcoal, paints, or a spool of wire. I envision myself becoming a practicing creative photographer after my education, but will be satisfied as long as art is a part of my life in some way. Even on the days that I’m feeling uninspired and unable to create, I find myself captivated by the art of others no matter what. I’m incredibly eager to shift the center of my focus to art and expand my abilities to new mediums and techniques.
While I excelled in high school and have the tools to focus on something else, such science or math, I choose to pursue art because I’m ready to break free from the mundane classroom environment. While there are many ways to make a living, I feel that a life in which I am not a practicing artist would be vacant and boring. Even within the realm of art, I don’t like boring; I like unique and strange. I tell stories and attempt to evoke an emotional response through my art, while still focusing heavily on aesthetics as well. My style is mysterious and often creepy, while still remaining approachable; it is distinctive, yet malleable, and I plan on seeing how far I can take it, and in what directions.
